Email vs Formal Letter: Which Should You Use?

Use a formal letter when the record matters

Formal letters are better for resignation notices, complaints, payment requests, landlord issues, legal-adjacent notices, and anything you may need to reference later.

Many situations work well as a formal letter sent by email. Use a clear subject line, keep the body professional, and attach a PDF if needed.

Decision rule
